Prestwick St Nicholas Ladies' Golf Club, Ayrshire. (1894 - 1949)
The Ladies St Nicholas course was first laid out for the Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club in 1877, after they were no longer able to share the old links with the Prestwick Club, this served as the club's course until they moved to their present site in 1892.
The course at Ayr Road then became the ladies course and remained so until bought over by the local council for housing in 1924. The council retained 9-holes and called the course (much to the annoyance of the parent club) the St Nicholas (Ladies) Municipal course. This name remained until 1949 when the course was renamed St Ninians (after the previous, now defunct, municipal course at Prestwick Toll) and remained so until the course eventually closed in its entirety in the late 1950s. (This is where many residents are confused by the site of the St Ninians course, remembering well the remnants of the ladies course of that name but being unaware of the original St Ninians Course at Prestwick Toll – see separate listing).
The Prestwick St Nicholas Ladies' Golf Club was inaugurated in 1894.
