Ossington (Kilmarnock) Golf Club, Ossington. (1887 - 1894)
The club was founded in 1888 as the Ossington Golf Club.
The original 18-hole course was located at Holme Farm.
The club moved to Barassie in the 1894 and became Kilmarnock Golf Club.
Competition result from October 1891.
The final tie for the captain's prize was played on Saturday 7 November 1891. After a very close contest James Auld won being two strokes clear. The "Walker Gold Medal" was won by Mr Rankin Macalister with a score of 103-24-79.
It was reported in the Edinburgh Evening News in October 1894. “New Golf Course Near Troon – A new golf links laid out by the Kilmarnock Golf Club on the Ayrshire coast, about a mile from Troon, is being opened today. The course is 18-holes and the formal opening was a foursome between Dr Lawrie and W Fernie against A Yates and W Auchterlonie.”
The Ordnance Survey Map below is from 1895 and shows Holme(s) Farm to the north of the River Irvine. The club had left the site by this time.
