Glasgow Evening Citizen Saturday 14 April 1894 - “OPENING OF LINKS AT AYR – The newly formed Ayr Golf Club, which has its nucleus in the Ayr Cricket Club, opened its links at Northfield this afternoon, when the first was driven by off by Mr D Naismith. The course is a nine-hole one, is a mile and a quarter round, and the longest hole is 300 yards. There are numerous natural hazards of an interesting description, including stone walls, sand bunkers and a burn.”
