Pines Golf Centre, Lockerbie Road, Dumfries. (1997 -2014)

Founded in 1997 The Pines Golf Centre golf course and driving range were situated to the north of the town of Dumfries.

The initial eighteen-hole course designed by Duncan Gray measured 5,943 yards and had a Par of 69.

Changes to the course layout and yardages were made throughout its short existence.

The greens at the outset were a particular feature of the course having subtle undulations and good surfaces. A variety of tees ensured that all standards of golfer could enjoy their game. The second, a sharp dog-leg round trees with a green set in a wooded dell, and the third, again a sharp dog-leg with a pond in front of the green, provided a difficult start. Underlying sand and gravel ensured good playing conditions all year round. Water came into play on several of the holes. At one time the Pines feature hole was the 149 yard par three seventeenth with water on three sides of the green. This was followed by a tough par four hole measuring 410 yards the main feature being a tight second shot to a green set into a background of heather, Birch and Pines.

Craig Hill was the professional joining the club in 2003.

The course gradually deteriorated and eventually closed in 2014.

Thanks to Dr. Douglas Lockhart who visited the former course in November 2019 and provided the following update. The clubhouse has gone and the site is being developed by Story Homes. Its very boggy/wet close to Lochar Moss and adjacent the Dumfries bypass A75. Uninviting landscape - yes another wet course - the pattern continues!
