Report on the new course in September 1896.
Report from the Scottish Referee Monday 29 March 1897 – “On Saturday afternoon a match took place between the Wigtown and Newton Stewart Clubs on the Kirroughtrie golf course and resulted in a win for Newton Stewart. The scores were; Newton Stewart 62, Wigtown 0.”
It was reported in May 1901 that the Newton Stewart Golf Club propose to erect a pavilion on the course. "The game seems to have taken a new lease of life in the town."
From the 1905 Nisbet’s Golf Yearbook; Instituted 1896; Membership of 80; Hon. secretary – George Kerr, Solicitor; Captain, Geroge Gifford; Lady Captain, Mrs McHaffie Gordon; Entrance fee, nil and subs, £1/1s; Ladies, 12s/6d; Nine-holes; Green-keeper, P Priestley; Visitors, 1 shilling a day, 2s a week, 3s a fortnight, 5s a month. The course is situated in the Policy Fields of Kirroughtrie. The ground is undulating, with patches of whin, hawthorn, and sloe here and there, and enclosed for the most part by fine woodlands. The course consists of nine-holes, the lengths varying from 120 to 450 yards. Owing to the gravelly nature of the soil the ground dries quickly, and even after rain a round may be played with comfort. There is a convenient golf pavilion on the course.

From The Scotsman Friday 10 January 1913 – “For some time the lady members of the Newton Stewart Golf Club have been engaged in playing for a prize presented by Mr W McKeand, Cumlodan Mill. The competition was match-play and was won by Mrs McNeill who defeated Miss McDavid by 2 and 1. In the eclectic competition first prize was taken by Miss Cunliffe, runner-up Miss McDavid. The monthly medal was won by Mr A W Robertson, 76; Mr Pace was second 82.
In 1919 the Newton Stewart green-keeper George Thomson, was appointed professional and green-keeper to the Peterhead Golf Club.
The captain in 1924/5 was John McConchie, Riverstead, Newton Stewart.
In May 1930 the handsome rose bowl presented to the ladies’ section by Mrs McHaffie Gordon of Crossmalzie was won by Miss Agnes Jesson, Rowallan, Newton Stewart.
In May 1932 A Merilees was elected captain.
The death was reported in May 1937 of Mr James Hunter a founder member of the Newton Stewart Golf Club.
It was reported in April 1943 that play would be suspended for the duration of the war.
From the Scotsman Saturday 8 February 1947; “NEW GOLF COURSE FOR NEWTON STEWART – A new 18-hole golf course is to be laid out on the Kirroughtree Estate. Ths means submerging of the existing nine-hole course of the Newton Stewart club.”
In July 1951 Newton Stewart beat the St Medans club by 10 shots to win the Dalrymple Cup Competition.
In 1952 Newton Stewart golfer Robbie Murray made it a hat-trick of wins in the Wigtownshire Golf Championship.

The course was not revived following WW2. The club continued to play over local golf courses in the 1950s.
