Gwydyr Castle Golf Club, Llanrwst. (1905 - 1911)

First appeared in 1905.

South Wales Daily News Tuesday 28 February 1905 - "The new golf links at Llanrwst are fast approaching completion, and they promise to be one of the finest inland links in the Principality. It is expected they will be ready about the middle of April. An effort is being made to get some members of the Royal Family to attend the opening ceremony."

It will be noticed that it was sometimes called Llanrwst Golf Club.

In 1906 the Secretary was John Blackwall, Hendre. A 9-hole course. Visitors’ fees were 1/6d a day and 5/- a week.

The following report appeared in the Manchester Courier on Friday 23 February 1906; "Llanrwst indulged in a new golf course last summer, it was situated in Earl Carrington's park and it was the noble owner who was called on to open the links. When presented with a driver for the purpose of inaugurating the venture, the Earl declined to essay the first shot, on the ground that in golfing circles to miss the opening drive was an ill-omen for the links, and an awkward situation arose; had Mr Haldine been present the difficulty would have easily been surmounted, but in his absence the delicate office of opening the course had to be delegated to a professional who was present."
