Peterwell Golf Club, Lampeter. (1899 - 1970s)
There is evidence of an earlier course at the Roman Road, Sarn Helen. There is also mention of a Gilvin Golf Club in the 1890/1900s. Further investigation required on these locations.
Mostly known as Peterwell Golf Club, occasionally called Lampeter Golf Club.
Originally a nine-hole course, by the 1970s it was an 18-hole course of 4,448 yards with a SSS of 71. Membership rose from 50 in the early years to 180 by the mid 1970s. The railway station was 1 mile away. Local hotels were the Black Lion and the Castle.
The following result is from the Cambrian News Friday 30 June 1899. "The monthly contest of the Lampeter Golf Club took place on Saturday when the gold medal was won by Mr J S Jones, Uplands."
The May 1900 monthly gold medal was played on the Gilvin Links and was won by Dr E C Davies, Millfield.
The following report is from the Cambrian News Friday 30 November 1900; "The Gilvin Golf Club met on their links on Saturday 24 November and played for the Dr. Davies Gold Medal. After a keen contest Dr Davies came out the winner with a score of 140 for eighteen-holes. One of the golfers Mr Ll B Price, met with an accident while getting over a hedge, dislocating his arm, but the doctor immediately placed the limb in its normal position and all went merrily again."

The later club was established in 1905.

The annual meeting of the Peterwell Golf Club was held in the College School on Tuesday 10 May 1910, Dr. Walker in the chair. The balance sheet showed a considerable balance in hand. The following officers were elected; Captain, J S Jones; hon. secretary - A R T Jones, Oak Lodge; hon. treasurer, S S M Baldwin; committee - Dr, Walker, Dr. E Evans, A Thompson, H A Pugh, A Roberts.

In 1914 there was no entry fee. Subs for gents were £1/1/0 and ladies 10/6d for 4 day membership, 21/- for six day. Visitors’ fees were 1/6d a day and 12/6d a month. Sunday play was not allowed at this time.

S J Ireland was appointed professional at Peterwell in 1920 and quickly set a new course record of 64 (he already held the record of 69); Out – 3,4,3,3,3,5,3,3,4 = 31, Home – 4,4,4,3,4,4,3,3,4 = 33 - total 64. Ireland originally from Ilfracombe, spent his formative years under the guidance of W G Groves the well respected Ilfracombe professional.

In the final round of the Dr Evans' Cup for ladies in September 1925 Mrs D Nun Davies (Mayoress) defeated Mrs W Lloyd, College Street, by 8 and 6.
Mr T Edmunds presided at the annual meeting in of the Peterwell Golf Club in April 1927. The financial statement showed a balance of £33. The following officials were appointed; Chairman and captain, T Edmunds; Ladies' captain, Miss Michael; Treasurer, A L Roberts; Secretary, D Leslie Davies.
In November 1930 T Edmunds, club captain, holed in one at the 170 yard eighth hole.

It was reported in March 1937 that the club had secured the services of professional E T Musty of Borth.

In the mid 1970s the secretary was Len B Evans. The club had a membership of 180 at this time. The amateur course record was held by Len B Evans with a score of 62. Visitors’ fees were 55p a round, £1.65 a week and £3.85 a month.
The new Llangybi Golf Club appears in August 1977.
