Penlanlas Golf Club, Aberystwyth. (2000s - 2014)
This undulating attractive course with stunning views had numerous water features and established tree plantations made up of natural indigenous species. Together with the peace and tranquility of the surroundings, it offered an ideal habitat for natural wild life, including the Red Kite. With optional tees, the 9-hole, 4119 yards, Par 62 course provided a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Green fees were; £12 for eighteen holes.
I intended to play the course in July 1914 but was informed that due to lack of use the club was now closed. The course was quite remote and was accessible by a long narrow road, not uncommon in this part Wales.
The club closed in 2014 and the course reverted to grazing land.
I was in the area in November 2014 and took the following pictures. The course had reverted to farmland, mostly for sheep grazing.
